BIS EXTENSION FOR COMPLIANCE OF COMMERCIAL COMPOUNDED CATTLE FEEDS
According to the official notification the Indian government and the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) have extended the deadline for businesses that produce feed for meat and milk-producing animals to meet Indian quality standards.
The Bureau of Indian requirements (BIS) set quality requirements for such animal feeds in 2009. The FSSAI made it necessary for commercial feed producers to conform to these criteria and show the BIS Certification Mark on their goods in December 2019.
This certification symbol guarantees that the feed satisfies the necessary standards and is safe for animals. The deadline for compliance was initially pushed back to January 1 due to the COVID-19 epidemic and lockdowns in 2021. However, difficulties in obtaining certification during the pandemic necessitated additional extensions. BIS has now decided to extend the compliance deadline once more. Businesses that have pending BIS Certification applications can now complete the requirements and display the BIS Certification Mark on their products by January 1, 2022.
This mark certifies that their feeds meet Indian Standard IS 2052:2019.To achieve Indian quality standards, cattle feed and poultry feed manufacturers must receive BIS Certification for their products and ensure the presence of the BIS Certification Mark on their labels by January 1, 2022.
